Munich. TÜV SÜD has strengthened its position in France. By establishing its new subsidiary TÜV SÜD France SAS, the international provider of testing and certification services has doubled its staff in France to over 20. The new subsidiary is slated to grow rapidly over the next years.

Ambur, India – TÜV SÜD South Asia, a leading provider of certification, testing, inspection and training services in South Asia, announced the inauguration of its testing laboratory for footwear and leather products in Ambur, Tamil Nadu on 24th July 2010.

India, Mumbai - In an effort to encourage reduction of resource consumption and promote environmental friendliness, the Chinese National Standard GB 23350-2009, outlining restrictions on excessive packaging of food and cosmetics, came into force recently in April 2010. Issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and Standardization Administration of China (SAQ), the standard will affect manufacturers, processors and retailers responsible for placing food, cosmetic and its packaging on the China market.

Munich. Despite the global financial and economic crisis, TÜV SÜD succeeded in significantly increasing its revenue in 2009. The revenue of the international service group rose by 4.5 per cent to EUR 1.427 billion, while the consolidated income before taxes remained almost at the previous year's level at EUR 101 million. The number of employees throughout the world rose by almost 500, to 14,635. In fiscal 2010, the service group expects further growth, fuelled in particular by the acquisition of companies.

Chennai, India – The Indian Leather industry has become increasingly cautious about the presence of the Restricted Substances in leather and footwear products. However, there have been cases of negligence amongst exporters with respect to this crucial aspect. While a section of exporters get a small percentage of batches of the total lot to be exported tested for eco parameters, the negligence bears heavily on the untested products. Corporate changeovers to smaller, more eco-friendly vehicles and a fuel-saving competition were the projects that won this year's GreenFleet® Award, presented by TÜV SÜD subsidiary FleetCompany GmbH. The winners were: RWE AG, Sony Deutschland GmbH and BTI Befestigungstechnik GmbH. The award was presented by TÜV SÜD President and CEO Dr Axel Stepken on Tuesday 6 October 2009. Dr Stepken stressed that fleet operators were showing a trend towards smaller and more economical vehicles. The ceremony took place at the TÜV SÜD corporation headquarters as part of the two-day Strategy Forum Fleet Management 2009.

Singapore - TÜV SÜD announces the appointment of Mr. Ishan Palit as Chief Regional Officer Asia Pacific, commencing October 1st 2009. Palit succeeds Mr. Dirk Eilers, who will take up the new global role of Chief Executive Officer of the TÜV SÜD Product Service Division.

"Eco-friendly", "innovative" and "sensible" are the attributes consumers name most often in connection with electric cars, according to a representative survey conducted by TÜV SÜD and market research institute Technomar. Sixty per cent of motorists surveyed claimed to be actively interested in e-mobility.

Munich. Changed statutory requirements will apply to medical devices in the future. From 21 March 2010 on, the requirements of European Directive 2007/47/EC will apply throughout the European Union. No transitional period is planned. Because uncertainty still prevails concerning the implementation of the new regulations, TÜV SÜD is organizing a road show to inform about the content and consequences of the Directive. The road show will be launched on 25 September in Mirandola (Italy), further stations being Frankfurt/Main (30 October), Berlin (4 November) and Munich (12 November).

Munich / Leverkusen / Schkopau. With effect from 1 July 2009, TÜV SÜD will take over the Technical Inspection unit of Dow Olefinverbund GmbH, Schkopau. By sealing this takeover, the international service provider continues on its track of continuously expanding services for the chemical and petrochemical industries. The takeover strengthens the position of TÜV SÜD Chemie Service GmbH in central Germany and opens new perspectives for driving internationalization.

The pre-registration period for chemicals under REACH expired in December 2008, and the new GHS regulation has been in effect since January 2009. Chemicals must now be registered, evaluated, assessed and labelled in phase-in periods. To ensure certain and cost-effective compliance with these more complex requirements, TÜV SÜD assists companies throughout all steps of REACH and GHS implementation.

Munich. Against the backdrop of the global financial and economic crisis, TÜV SÜD AG continued its expansion course in 2008. The revenue of the international service corporation increased to almost EUR 1.4 billion, EBT remained roughly at the prior-year level, at EUR 107 million. Munich. TÜV SÜD is now also authorized to verify climate-change projects under the Joint Implementation scheme of the Kyoto Protocol. The international service provider is the first company worldwide to hold an accreditation for these services. Projects in industrialized countries can thus now also be verified and approved for emissions trading.

In the coming year, TÜV SÜD Academy will continue to offer a broad range of educational and training courses on proven or innovative themes, with a total of over 400 subjects and over 8,000 individual seminars and events. From 2009 onwards the education experts will add new services such as the option of booking reduced-rate rail tickets to travel to TÜV SÜD events.

TÜV SÜD and The Innovation Society, St. Gallen, presented the master document of their CENARIOS® standard at the 4th NanoRegulations Conference in St. Gallen on 16 September 2008. The open-access document is designed to increase transparency in the assessment and control of potential risks in the field of nanotechnology.
