TÜV SÜD establishes e-mobility project houseMunich. TÜV SÜD is stepping up its commitment in the field of electromobility by establishing an e-mobility project house. In this project house, experts from TÜV SÜD's three strategic business segments INDUSTRY, MOBILITY and PEOPLE will join forces at global level and work on integrated solutions in energy generation, infrastructure and vehicle safety: "To bring about rapid and sustainable success, we need an intelligent and integrated e-mobility programme. The project house will practise such an integrated approach", emphasises Dr Axel Stepken, CEO and President of TÜV SÜD.
TÜV SÜD provides consultancy and certification services at national and international level in the field of renewable energies, which will in turn be used to power electric cars. In addition, the company's experts develop safety standards for both vehicles and infrastructure such as charging points, provide training on safety in handling the high voltages used in electric cars and develop recycling solutions for both cars and batteries. One of the core issues in this context is to identify the risk factors of lithium-ion batteries and to use these findings to develop safety standards for electric cars. In late 2009, TÜV SÜD carried out the world's first dynamic crash test with lithium-ion batteries. TÜV SÜD's aim behind bundling its corporate activities in e-mobility is to make use of the high potential and opportunities in the energy-supply and automotive industries: "The project house and its consistent international focus will enable us to make optimum use of TÜV SÜD's knowledge potential. In electromobility in particular, intelligent and integrated programmes are critical for sustainable success. Focusing on energy and cars alone will not be sufficient", underlines Dr Stepken. |
