TÜV SÜD inaugurates state-of-the-art electrical and electronic products testing lab in India
Lab to provide world class facilities to local manufacturers and exporters for compliance with local and global standards
Mumbai, March 26, 2014: TÜV SÜD South Asia, today, announced the launch of its state-of-the-art electrical and electronics (E&E) testing lab in India’s electronics and IT hub, Bengaluru. This E&E lab will conduct the globally acclaimed CE marking for electronic goods, used by businesses to rule out the possibilities of safety hazards. It will also be one of the few facilities in the country that will undertake and evaluate risk assessments for machinery. The lab will also provide relevant services to local manufacturers and suppliers of electronic products to comply with local (BIS) as well as global (IEC, EN, FCC) standards.
TÜV SÜD’s E&E lab will help Indian suppliers adhere to world class standards, which in turn will increase their demand in the domestic market as well as make them more competitive in the export market. This testing facility will help electronic manufacturers in India reduce costs by sourcing locally instead of importing electronic components that assure them quality at a higher cost. It will also contribute towards reducing India’s dependence on imports of consumer electronics, which currently features in the top eight categories of imports in India. In addition, the lab will largely focus on EMC tests such as:
- IEC 61000-4-2 (Electrostatic Discharge)
- IEC 61000-4-4 (Electrical Fast Transient)
- IEC 61000-4-5 (Surge)
- IEC 61000-4-8 (Magnetic Immunity Power Frequency)
- IEC 61000-4-11 (Voltage Dips and Interrupt)
- CISPR 22 (Conducted Emission)
Speaking at the inauguration of the lab, Mr. Niranjan Nadkarni, CEO, TÜV SÜD South Asia stated that, “The next decade is going to be the most exciting one for the electronics manufacturing sector in the country, given the conducive business environment. We see immense potential for growth in this sector as global consumer electronics firms have committed to invest over Rs. 3500 crores to set up manufacturing units in India. As the industry grows, there is an urgent need for testing and certification partners who can help businesses comply with global and local regulations to grow domestic and export business. Our lab in Bengaluru is aimed at filling this gap and helping businesses improve profitability through safety audits. The lab will also provide services for electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility tests. This is a proud moment for us and we look forward to partnering with global as well as local firms in the years to come.”
Currently, TÜV SÜD has 13 operational labs across India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka specialising in testing and inspection of food, softlines, hardlines, health, beauty and children’s products. These state of the art labs utilise TÜV SÜD’s multidisciplinary expert pool to provide comprehensive testing capabilities ranging from physical testing, performance and quality testing, and regulatory testing.
